Elementary Music
Students from DDS come to PBHS in grades 5 & 6 for Music.
Grade 5
In grade 5 we focus on developing the performer, listener, evaluator, and composer through many mediums including the Recorder, Ukelele, and African Drums.
Students are expected to have their recorder at school by the first week of October. If your student does not already own one, a good quality Yamaha recorder can be purchased at Long & McQuade in Lethbridge for $6.50 +GST.

Grade 6
In grade 6, students start band! At the end of grade 5 they were given an instrument recommendation based on our in class observations and trials on the band instruments. This recommendation was included in their report card comment.
Students are expected to have their instruments at school by the third week of September. If you do not have an instrument in your possession at this time and are in need of renting or acquiring an instrument there are a couple avenues you can take. The first avenue is renting from a music store (information below) or you can find a used instrument online to purchase.
Instruments that we will play in band and can be rented or purchased privately include: flute, clarinet, alto and tenor saxophone, trumpet, and trombone. Instruments can be bought/rented from Long and McQuade Music in Lethbridge. The average rental price is anywhere from $130 - $300 for the year. Most parents choose a new or used rental/purchase package from a music store, but some choose to buy a new or used instrument. If you have an instrument already for your son or daughter to use, then that choice of instrument will be fine with me.
Band supplies: students need a Standard of Excellence Method Book (supplied by the school), a pencil and should have their instruments at school by Thursday Sept 17th. You may bring your instrument before then so I can have a look at it and make sure it’s all ready to go.
I am looking forward to teaching your son or daughter band this school year. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Colman at the school.
